Andrès Garcìa produces electronic music Everywhere from minimal techno to the open waters of cinematic sound Everything for the dancefloor, the theatrical stage, the silver screen and your listening pleasure.

How did he get there ?

All in the family. A music-loving grandfather brings Andrès into the world of organized noise by putting guitars, flutes and percussions into his hands. These early events take place in Spain in the 1970s.

Discovering synthetizers. In Geneva since 1980, Andrès begins with classical piano classes, then moves onto jazz and improvised music. The music of Herbie Hancok and Joe Zawinul will be a revelation, and will trigger Andrès’s interest in synthetizers. He will move mountains to get his hands on these creative tools, rythm boxes, sequencers, computers… Andrès discovers he can produce music by himself. The 17 year-old acquires solid technical know how at the Geneva Conservatoire Populaire, attending classes in electroacoustic music (with Rainer Boesch).

Debut on the stage. Andrès is 20 when he embarks on a professional career as a musician, composing for the theatre and for contemporary dance shows. He continues this work to this day, having left his imprint on over 40 productions, some of which have toured internationally (Teatro Malandro, Alias compagnie, L'Alakran). Currently he is solicited for film scores.

Studio apprenticeship. Andrès forms I Mericani, a band that will tour across Europe and Canada, bringing to audiences a mix of various sounds (global folk, jazz, rock). I Mericani will release four albums, giving Andrès the opportunity to experiment with all aspects of studio work. Indeed, he produces, records and mixes everything the band composes.

Electronic blossoming. Little by little, Andrès choses electronic music in all aspects of his professional activity. He prefers to work solo to pursue his objectives and bring to life his vision in this domain. In 2000, Andrès produces I Am Your Friend, a highly praised album. Unfortunately, this work will stay on the shelf, forgotton by a negligent recording label until 2006, when it is released digitally by Helvet Underground.

Geneva at the beginning of the 21st Century is a flourishing scene for electronic music, giving Andrès the opportunity to pick partners. He releases tracks with Philippe Quenum on the Imploz, Num, and Toys for Boys labels. Together with Paris the Black Fu (Detroit Grand Pubahs) he forms the AG/BG duet, writing all the tracks of the Blind Date w/Dr. Bootygrabber EP released on Logistic.

Soon after he welcomes into his studio Martin Schopf (Dandy Jack), newly settled in Geneva. Together, they create the John Keys project : live sessions to be remembered, somewhere between techno and cumbia, with Andrès working the dancefloor to a frenzy with an accordion. In fall 2007, John Keys releases the Who is Afraid of Virginia Tsedong EP on Crosstown Rebels.

And now? 2008 will be full of surprises. Between his live sets and recordings, Andrès rocks and rolls with John Keys and with Dobradinha, a new outfit with two brazilian singers / rappers. On the stage, he is working on a ballet and a new play. And his partnership with Philippe Quenum is taking a serious turn…to be continued.
