Born in 1970 in Australia, raised to 70s electronic disco and his parents’ Kraftwerk records in the outskirts of Nairobi, then grown on DAF, new wave and EBM back in Europe’s 1980s, Plastique has been fascinated by electronic sound since childhood and dabbling into electronic music since 1984 !!
After several live EBM and experimental performance groups, then acid, techno and early rave projects, contemporary art installations and KLF-like performances across the 90s, Plastique released two electro bombs on Gigolo and a string of remixes and productions on Geneva label Mental Groove at the beginning of this century, becoming one of the pioneering names of the Swiss electro scene, as well as a familiar name on the international scene as a wicked electro producer and skilled party deejay. He started deejaying in 1997, after many years of playing only live.
He also co-founded www.basic.ch, Switzerland’s first exclusively online radio, in 1998, hosting an electronic music show with local and international guests from 1998 to 2005. More than 150 archived 2 hour mixes are still accessible 24/7.
After the highlight of the electro era, Plastique then moved on with releases on other top international labels such as Turbo, Kitty Yo, Supersoul Recordings or DFA. His electro, disco, breakdance and acid house influenced productions have been played and playlisted by many top djs across the world such as Dj Hell, Miss Kittin, Tiga, Playgroup, Chicken Lips, Optimo Djs, John Acquaviva, Laurent Garnier, Ralph Lawson, Electric Indigo, etc…
In the last 15 years, he has opened for or played alongside world-famous artists such as Kraftwerk, The Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Underworld, Dopplereffekt, Laïbach, Front 242, The Young Gods, I-F, Zombie Nation, Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Ellen Alien, DMX Krew, Alec Patterson, Jamie Lidell, Jimi Tenor, Tiga, David Carretta, Anthony Rother, Radio Slave or Modeselektor, to name only a few...
Today Plastique De Rêve lives and works in Berlin, as ever into futuristic electro, techno, acid house and cosmic disco, but also weird ambient soundtracks for film and installations. He’s a great live performer and a skilful peak-time club deejay for all of those who have embraced neither the electro-clash mullet nor the minimal scarf, but keep on looking for the perfect beat.
His newest single “Lost In The City” is out now on DFA’s new side-label Death From Abroad in the US, and will be released soon on Berlin’s Supersoul Recordings for Europe and the World (distribution Kompakt), with remixes by The Juan MacLean (DFA) and Chicago’s Dj Rampage.
